Location

In this picture Badgers Den and Fudge cottage are under the balloon shadow, middle left, as you can see they are surrounded by beautiful countryside. Badgers Den sits across the lane from a small brook which eventually runs through the main street of Budleigh, a mile away. Opposite is the newly established vineyard ‘Lily Farm’ where the vines can be seen growing on the south facing slope.

Just 300 yards away is the local pub where good food can be enjoyed and a carvery on Sunday lunch time. The nearest Shops and restaurants are in Budleigh and a large Tesco supermarket is just 3 miles towards Exmouth. The area generally has something to offer everyone.

Walking, cycling, fishing & birdwatching

Walking is almost endless, starting from the gate. Easy routes will take you over the nearby Commons and to the red sandstone cliffs of the East Devon coastal path. Dartmoor is easily accessible within the hour

Cycling – Huge area for cycling all over the Woodbury common which begins at the top of the lane also the disused railway line is a cycle track to Exmouth.

Fishing – Squabmoor reservoir for Coarse and Carp fishing is 1 km away – day fishing permits are available.

For birdwatchers, the 3 mile river Otter path from the pretty village of Otterton to Budleigh beach is a beautiful and level walk partly alongside conserved reed beds and salt marshes in the Nature reserve. The Exe estuary and viewing areas at Topsham are only a few miles away. Stuart Line Cruises offer boat trips along the river all year round and in the summer trips along the Jurassic coast, to Torquay & Brixham or a canal cruise.

Beaches, shopping,horse rising & golf

Beaches – nearby are Budleigh’s famous pebble shore or Exmouth’s 2 miles of sandy beach. The Dorset and East Devon Coast is a World Heritage Site because of its outstanding, beautiful and accessible geology – it is now called the red sandstone cliffs of the Jurassic coast and the East Devon coastal path .

Exeter is the closest City with its Cathedral, historic quayside, museum and underground passages. Outside the Cathedral the red-coats begin free guided tours of the city throughout the week.

Horse riding – Budleigh Salterton’s riding school is only ½ a mile up the lane from where they go riding all over the Common.

Golf – There is the Budleigh golf course with it’s fine views overlooking the sea and Woodbury’s excellent golf course nearby.

Beaches, festivals & fun days out

Just along the coast, at Sidmouth, the fabulous International Folk Festival takes place each summer

Places to visit include Bicton Gardens with its miniature railway, The Shell House (NT), Killerton House (NT), The Donkey Sanctuary and for those looking for something a bit more special and luxourious, there’s Champagne Hot Air Balloon Flights, with Aerosaurus Balloons in Whimple (just by Exeter Airport).
